A Friday afternoon badge or copy? No sweat hole. Soldier’s Friend residue in some recess.

Hi, I think the metal between the bottom of the flag and castle turret is a bad sign.
Cheers Tony.

Tony you are probably right but there are some pretty poorly struck period badges out there.

Is it metal or is it polish build up?

Good question Phil.
Tony.

It’s metal

Metal I believe.

A genuine badge in my belief.

Some fakes do have this feature which is where I believe the advice/saying has come from. The badge above is from a different die and everything about it strikes me as correct and period.

Interesting, that being the case I wonder how many genuine examples have been dismissed as fake?
Apologies for my incorrect assumption re badge in original post.
Best I keep stumm.
Tony.

As Luke mentioned, a genuine badge without doubt. All too many WW1 era badges were of horrible quality; but just such a "quality" that fakes do not exhibit. Judging badges by this factor alone would seem an obsolete endeavor.
