Hello all these belong to my father in law he tells me the top patch with the lion is southern command but when I've looked for a better patch it's coming up as british war office can someone please confirm what it is he said he was issued it when he passed out.

Personally I love the patch as it is - it's been worn so saw action instead of just he QM shelf. I would not replace it!!! My references show it as "War Office Controlled Units".

Thanks for that. I will keep the patch but get another one just for reference.

The War Office Controlled Units formation sign was worn by many training units and arms schools in the UK. As there were REME detachments in most units it is possible that on passing out, your father in law’s first posting was to one of those units.

That makes sense. I'm hoping to visit him in the next few weeks once hes feeling better and I can get all the information I can from him regarding his army career before it's to late.
