RNAS Armoured Car rating. I know we have had some discussion here on the way the RNAS Armoured Car badge was worn (or to be worn) by RNAS ratings, this photo clearly illustrates the badge being worn as a pair on the lapels of the tunic.

His embroidered cap badge is fairly clear as well.

His rank badge(Petty Officer) is also shown on his left sleeve, its not all that clear but its definitely a PO rank badge.

The badge is definately the crossed anchors under a Kings Crown of a P.O. as you say

No rate badge on his right sleeve, & with no name unable to research or determine what his trade in the RNAS may have been.

Are the cap badges the PO's are wearing the red-embroidered version then? I doubt if they'd been wearing CPO badges.

Another thing, It's good to see that the badges are not opposite facing.

Unlikely Alex, the red embroidered cap badge was worn by Artificers rated as PO's on qualification. Petty Officers from other branches would not have ordinarily worn the red embroidered version ;)

Yes, that's what I would have expected however I doubt if they would have been entitled to wear the bullion cap badge as that was for CPO's.

Further to previous post, looking more closely at the 2 close-up photos, the anchors appear to be embroidered rather than the metal anchors of the CPO badges, so I suspect they will be the red embroidered badges.

Agree with Alex.
They would be wearing the red Class III uniform cap badge.

If they were a CPO then they would have worn the gold class I uniform cap badge which was given to PO's in 1920 when CPO's moved to the laurel wreath cap badge.

Interestingly in post 4 the first photo appears to have been taken at the Clement-Talbot works. They were forerunners to Sunbeam Talbot and made armoured cars in WW1.
