The Royal Scots Officier badge (for glengarry)

Here is my first request for help ..
I'm trying to find a Royal Scots badge of the specific model for the glengarry.
From my web search (I still don't have any texts or publications to help me) I realized that every Regiment Battalion had its own badges, different in graphics from that of others.
I ask you to kindly post pictures of the officer badges commonly in use on this hat and tell me about any differences (in size) compared to those for the cap.
Of course it would be useful (unless the drawing has remained the same until now) to check the type and size of the badges used during WW2.
Thank you all!! :)

Note:

I found this on the web (2nd Battalion?), size cm 5,3 x 4,7...Is it a glenfarry or cap badge?

It is an officer's badge as worn on the Glengarry cap. The marking appears to be Ludlow, London.
Tough to date, but it is certainly 50 years and older.

Many thanks, CB :)

Ludski became Ludlow in 1933 so the badge post dates this name change.

Thank you Luke, so this is definitely a WW2 badge.
Regarding the dimensions (5,3 x 4,7 cm), can you tell me if it is a glengarry badge or a cap badge?

A Glengarry is a cap. The only other headdress worn in the period of this badge was the Balmoral, in both khaki for service dress or blue with diced band for full dress.
In any case, the badge was the same.

Thank you CB!
Your observation unfortunately reveals my lack of knowledge of the correct terminology in the field of British uniforms.
I had always identified in the "cap" the hat with the visor, distinguishing it precisely from the other traditional British and Scottish headgear in particular (glengarry, balmoral, etc.) and therefore I asked for confirmation that the badge had the same dimensions both for the visor hat than for the glengarry.
Now I have the answer and I thank you. ;)

I ask you for further clarification.
Could you tell me the diffreenze between these three badges?
All are shown on the web as "Royal Scots Officier Badge" ... but clearly there must be differences, of model, age and grade ... what are they?
Thank you :)

Hi Fante
I am not sure which Web-site you are getting these pictures from, but badge number 3 is a fake Other Ranks Glengarry badge circa 1852 to 1871 (according to Bloomer). I must say it has been polished-up nicely, but nevertheless a fake I'm afraid. Badge number 1 however is a very nice Officer's pattern 1933 - 1959. ( the actual pattern is 1931 - 59 but the Ludlow mark more specifically dates it) Badge number 2 is an ORs wm glengarry cap 4 & 5 Bns Royal Scots 1908 - 21. I cannot say if this is a fake or not. Regards Jeff

Thank you for your reply, Jeff and thanks for solving my doubts.
I only ask you if the badge n. 1 has the correct measurements to be mounted on a glengarry.
The badge in fact measures 5.3 x 4.7 cm and it seems to me that the glengarry badges are generally larger in size .. can you give me information in this regard?
Thanks, Fante

Hi Fante
According to my records, badge n.1 should be about 51mm X 45mm give or take, probably due to manufacturer's differences. (slightly different from yours but still within tolerance)
badge n.2 I do not have the details … perhaps someone else can help here.
badge n.3 is of the "modern" style, ie ; 1890 - 1958 so therefore probably measures 60mm X 58mm
NB: A genuine "old pattern" ie ; "Royal Regiment" 1852 - 1871, or "Royal Scots" 1871 - 1889 should measure 64mm X 60mm. It was a two piece badge ; the wm star backplate being solid with a raised centre. Superimposed on this was a brass St.Andrew with the appropriate title. Hope this answers some of your questions. Regards. Jeff

PS: As CB says, the dimensions for the Glengarry and the Balmoral are identical.

Thanks again, Jeff, for the valuable information!:)
