Royal Navy identification
 

Hello,

I'm looking for a picture of the yacht AKEELA III.
This boat was part of a LSI convoy which sailed to Gold Beach sector on D-Day 6 June 1944. Any information about its mission in the convoy would be helpful.

I'm also looking for identification of the abbreviation "RRB" which is used to name 3 boats (RRB1-RRB2-RRB3). They are included in the LSI convoys. Any help about their missions in the convoys would be helpful as well.

Capable of 24 knots!

She is in Lloyd's Register of Yachts 1947:

Akela III, wood pet.mot. twnsc, registered net & gross 35, Length TM 53.0, built by G. Lawley, 2 petrol motors each 6 cyl 5.5"-7", owned by E.G. Hawker, Poole

In 1953 she is owned by M. Dorothy Hawker, Poole,
Engines have been replaced by 2x 8 cy. 3.25"-4 7/8", Chrysler 48.

I would suggest RAF Rescue Boat.

That was a suggestion on WWII Talk some while back, although I don't think it was ever firmed up.

Its the only thing that I can think of that would fit for the time frame and the events.

Other than something along the lines of Registered Rescue Boat or Registered Race Boat, which I have never heard of in context.
