I thought the commando qual badge was the same across the army regardless of unit?

Wonderful, thank you very much. Now to actually find some!

I am still looking for the Army Formation sleeve badges from the Sultanate of Oman.

            Are they Mess Dress badges?

AFIAK they're the same as the Hooligans - they wear their parent unit's mess kit or civvy black tie...

              That's certainly how it was.

The problem with Mess Dress is; people put all sorts of colours on it regardless of Regulations.

Checked last night and there was a suggestion of "SR" around a dagger (?) as a possible badge but it never came to fruition. Believe SRR do wear the sabre wings though if earnt. otherwise little in the way of other badging is worn.

Earlier I stumbled across some chevrons that look like they are on midnight blue backing and are described by the seller as "MOD issue" on a well-known auction site. That made me remember this thread and also check Army Dress Regulations (All Ranks) February 2016 (the most recent version I could find). That document is unequivocal that the SRR (together with 22 and 23 SAS) wear rank badges and chevrons in "black on pompadour blue".
