In white metal. Within a wreath a Maltese cross. At the centre of the cross a crowned bugle within a circlet inscribed The Post Office Rifles. Above the cross a tablet inscribed 8th Battalion with an Imperial crown above. Beneath the cross a scroll inscribed City of London. The wreath is adorned with four more scrolls inscribed with the battle honours: Egypt 1882 and S.Africa 1899-02.
The unusual honour—for a territorial regiment, ‘Egypt 1882’, was awarded for the supply of personnel to the Army Post Office Corps active in that theatre.
The 8th Battalion amalgamated with the 7th (City of London) Battalion the London Regiment in 1922, becoming the 7th City of London Battalion (Post Office Rifles), the badge above becoming obsolete.
