51st Independent Infantry Brigade formation sign

This example embroidered on wool- a black square with a white circular disc containing a black swan. Made in facing pairs.

Brigade commanded in the UK by the Earl of Caithness 1952. Stationed At Barnard Castle 1952 and inspected by Field Marshal Sir William Slim in September of that year. Appears to have served in the Near East/Canal Zone and Cyprus in the 50s.

The Brigade was also joined at Barnard Castle 10/12/1952 by the 1st Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, duration unknown.

1955?-1958 – Brigade in Cyprus.
