Default WW1,CEF, Good Conduct Badge

Hi

Can anyone tell me some info about the Good Conduct Badge? i understand it's either a cloth/metal stripe worn on the uniform?. Does anyone have any WW1 Examples i can look at on here?. Can you pick them up are they a common item to find?.

Hello Luke, The good conduct badge was an inverted rank chevron, worn on the lower left sleeve. It was awarded for a number of years good service. One chevron was for at least a couple of years trouble free service. (IIRC "trouble free" meant no record in the battalion / regimental discipline records for the time period.) The sources vary the time required, some say 2, some 4 years of undetected crime. And, if I recall, wartime service halved the requirement? More chevrons could be awarded for additional periods of service.
