Tank Commander title
I'm sure I have seen this somewhere before but can't recall where. Canadian perhaps?

Hi Jon, Nothing in the Canadian army like that title.

Hi, I have one which looks to have come off a woolen pullover. At the time I was told it was Canadian. You might have seen it in my collection, best wishes Mike

Theatrical maybe? I don't remember any circumstances before GW1 when RAC units wore badges which said (or signified) "Tank Commander" - or indeed ANY trade badges.

Gents,
Thanks for your input. Strange how such things can exist and yet no-one knows what they are. Jon |

Tank Commander
Jon, Does the rather strange font give any clues - the san serifs letter C for example. Can the other slightly odd letter be compared to any identified titles in your collection - or an your database. Currently killing time in CDG Airport, Paris so can't consult my collection.. Mike

Mike,
I agree it's a strange font but I will check against my records. Have a good flight. Jon |

Tank Commander
Could this be one of those cloth badges produced during WWII that was entirely unofficial or maybe made as a trial piece.
My first reaction was something of a fantasy badge which I think I saw on ebay a while ago. Only an opinion . . ! Rob |

Could it not have come from one of the many depots (i.e. Bovvy) which were in existence in WW2? That's usually where they trial things; either there or Demo Sqn. Maybe yer man with the tache at the Tank Museum would know?

I vaguely recall a boys Action Man Play Suit that had the badge either on the sleeves or chest. Of course I have been wrong a few times.

I'm still intrigued by the font - every letter is "w/serifs" except the C in COMMANDER. And surely lettering that misaligned could never have passed any sort of military quality control. So I'm leaning in the direction of 54 Bty's revelation! Mike
