Default Pembroke Yeomanry

Hi All,
Here are my Pembroke Yeomanry badges for comment.

I believe the lugged bimetal ones are genuine but have my doubts on the all brass slidered one. It has a narrower bottom scroll as mentioned in Cox's book but is a two piece badge unlike the one piece lugged badge in Brookies' Pembroke album.

Does anyone have a genuine all brass badge to compare?

Thanks, Tinto

Tinto

I would question the one on the far right..... looks a bit "North Wales Collectibles"?

Hi Tinto,

The first two are fine, but I am also not keen on the all gm. The font on the scroll should be similar to the others. Even the OSD and later version has the same font type as the first two examples.

Default All Brass Pembroke Yeomanry

Thankyou all for the confirmation.

Does anyone have a genuine all brass badge with slider to show?

Cheers, Tinto

Tinto,

The first one is a cast copy is it not? Do you think it is theatre made or modern?

The one on the right is a modern copy with the narrower scroll and font. I've seen a few over the years.

Garry,

The rear of the reinforced badge you show is exactly the same as one I have by Firmin and is only the second I have ever seen.

Hwyl,

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Thanks for your comments. I did have my doubts about the all-brass badge on the right.

I'm not sure about the one on the left. It does have the appearance of a cast badge but there is quite a lot of fine detail on the reverse which I wouldn't expect to find on a cast badge. The gilding metal coronet is held by two pins N-S. I don't think it is a modern copy but I stand to be corrected.

Cheers, Tinto

Tinto,

Here's my officers' theatre made cast copy c.1917. You will note that the cast has been taken from a two part badge and that the maker has split the battle honour into into two words.

I've also added the post war Officers' beret badge shown against a standard Firmin made OSD for size comparison and then against the ORs AA (also Firmin).

The last two photos show the successive Officers' collar badges from all silver, through gilded crown and lastly gilded crown and title scroll. This is as the cap badges should be from first issue to last, an example of the last in silver plate and gilt is shown.

Hwyl,

Kevin

Jonathan,
This is one for the boss. Ask him if he has come across anything like this before.
I swapped a 1st VB Welsh for this s&g Pembs Yeo sweetheart. Shown alongside a standard early pattern cap badge and an officers' s&g collar for size comparison.
It's actually constructed like a cap badge which I've not seen before.
Hwyl,
Kevin

I'm almost certain the first badge is a cast copy, possibly still theatre made rather than a copy as such. I have seen them with the pinned-on overlay but you can definitely see where the rectangular 'blow-hole' indentation is from the template badge.
Cheers,
Alex

G’day guys

Pick this up over 30 years ago quite happy with it at the time and put it in a tin where it stayed until last month when I took these photographs.

When I took it out the tin I had changed my mind on its originality and reading this thread confirms my thoughts.

Evening Kevin.

Had a word and he said that it's a S/G collar that's been converted to a sweet heart brooch, the top lug has been removed to allow the plate to be added, probably the bottom lug has been adapted to take the pin.

Size is okay as the pair we have are larger than the general collars.

Nice collar.

Ta

I picked up this poor quality OSD collar a while back, it looks to be cast but I assume it is OK.
