14th ROYAL IRISH RIFLES Y.C.V
Badge bought as a 'restrike' from a sellers 'restrike' card. Rear and slider not very impressive but not the usual crown used on copies of this badge. Looks to have a fault to the left of the wrist. Posted for comment. Regards, Paul.

Quick bump-anyone encountered this version- there are loads of the usual duff version about-but this is the only one of this type I have seen in the flesh. Old or new version? Regards, Paul.

If the badge was to be less 'sharp' East and West of the crown- with a non copper looking slidder- I also think it could cause problems. Interested to hear others views- how common is this version? Regards, Paul.

Anyone have any idea of what a genuine one would cost?

Appears the last "Half Decent" looking one sold on Ebay went for £250.

No slight intended towards the seller, but I think someone has landed a "Duffer"?

Yes that's the one, apart from the detail being poor, I would have thought even the most basic collector would know that MM should not be on a WW1 badge???

Another variation:
the problem with these badges is that they have been copied by many people and there is the same problems as with RND. The assumption is that only one die type that is 'right' which as the RND has shown may be 'wrong' and correct badges are being dismissed because they do not exactly match. In the YCV's case I am led to believe that this badge was in use from 1912 by the YCV before being adopted by the 14th Bn RIR in 1914. There remains a strong chance that more than one batch were made which may well have seen more than one die or maker involved. |
