Hi Andy

This is a special badge awarded to members of the Seaman Specialist Branch when they achieve Leading Rate.

When ratings of the Seaman Specialist Branch get to Leading Rate in addition to the usual 'foul anchor' rate badge they are awarded a badge to be worn on the right cuff of their uniform (in gold for Number 1's and in blue-on-white for Tropical rig). It incorporates the shackle from the Specs badge and the flag from the RO(T)'s badge. These represent the 'ancestors' of the modern Seaman Specialist Branch!

Hi Andy

I know this badge has been in use since at least 2009. I think that it may have been introduced when the new branches and branch badges came in on 30th March 2007.

Regards

Pete
