Badge Combination
The badge combination being worn on the instructor on the right has me baffled. I suspect they are Corps badges, the fellow on the right is Queens Own Rifles. Any educated guesses as to what the combination on the left is?

The soldier on the right - Royal Canadian Armoured Corps with a US "Ranger" tab and metal RCAC "tank" badge?
Possibly instructors at the Armour School? What is the kit they are using, a rangefinder? Phil Last edited by Phillip Herring; 13-11-14 at 04:39 PM. |

Interesting Combination
Yes, that combination makes sense! I did not know that Ranger tabs were worn on BD in the 1960s, I always thought the practice was adopted in the 1970s. I also missed the metal RCAC 'Tank' badge.
The devise is a DX43 Exosimulator which was used to train stick-handling for SS 11B and ENTAC operators. Thanks for the identification. |

It looks like the QOR sgt has the tank device on his tunic as well. What would the purpose of the tank badge be? Anti-tank gunners?
I am not sure the other fellow is RCAC? The title looks doesn't look like the RCAC. The lanyard on the other Sgt is? (Is he from the Vandoos?)

Perhaps
Since this is a posed photograph, perhaps both are Infantry instructors attached to the Armour School. Did staff at the Armour School wear the Metal RCAC badge?
Who ever said that Post-WWII BD badging was not challenging? |

From the pic, I am thinking that the time period is mid 60's?
Any idea on the lanyard? It sure doesn't look like RCAC.

So now we have two infantry sgts with metal tank insignia above their stripes. Ed, can you explain what the equipment in the photo is actually for? Looked it up - The SS11 and ENTAC were wire guided anti-tank missiles. Phil Last edited by Phillip Herring; 08-01-11 at 01:49 AM. |

I agree that the guy on the right is wearing 1st Bn, Vandoos shoulder title. I assume that the tank represenets the anti-tank platoon and they are training on the ENTAC.

The metal tank was indeed worn by sergeant instructors at the RCAC School. Whether this extended to non-RCAC staff I do not know, but this photo seems to indicate that such was the case.

DX43 Exosimulator
The DX43 Exosimulator was used to train personnel on the joy stick which was used to control to flight of the SS 11B and ENTAC missiles onto the target.
