Thanks

As author of one of these (British Army cap Badges of the First World War), I'd better just direct you to the previous thread on the subject....

Thanks very much for your kind comments - Chris and I are waiting to hear from our publishers as to whether they want to do a WW2 book. We are ready when they are!

Best wishes
Peter

I have both books and have been very impressed by them. In a way, the Ward book is a little bit more general in its overall scope, I think, but still good as it covers a wide range of topics. I just got Peter Doyle's book and was impressed by the quality of the illustrations (comparable to the good quality of Ward's book). I particularly like the information on badge construction and the discussion on terminology regarding metals, i.e. gilding metal or brass. I was surprised to see how many of the badges illustrated in Peter's book that I have in my collection. Now I just have to check them all for authenticity! A WW2 book in the same format would be great, but it would be competing with Alderton's book, which I also think is good. Good work Peter!

Thanks David!

I think there is room for a variety of books on the subject, and anything Chris and I do on the subject would hopefully complement existing volumes.

Hi
I have them both, the Doyle one is very good, the Ward one also has some very good picture's of badges but there are a lot of mistake's in some of the caption's,I wrote to the publisher pointing this out when I bought the book last year. But like I say the picture are good so go ahead and buy them both.

When I get it I'll let you know Peter. It'll be my next best reference until I can save up for the K&K one day.

Regards

Simon.

I wasn't very impressed by the Ward book because of some Gaffes. For example the Connaught Rangers badge on page 95 appears to be a restrike. The photo on page 34 of the badge drawers at Sabre sales seems to contain boxes of repros. ( Or is it usual to see 6 shiny LRDG badges in a tin ).
I would hesitate to recommend this book to a beginner. It is far from comprehensive and there are better badge books out there.

Thanks James.
