Indian Overseas Service badge
Hi All,
I would be grateful for information about this badge, in bronze, has pin fastener and measures 37mm in diameter. When was it issued, and who wore it? Thanks, Tinto |

Hi,
I'm posting this again. I'm sure there must be an Indian badges expert on the Forum that would know. Thanks, Tinto |

Hi Phil,
Thanks very much for that information. From what you said, I gather the badge was issued to Indian nationals or to those residing in India at that time. Cheers, Tinto |

Yes, any soldier who served in the In the Indian Army outside India: so, Burma, North Africa, Italy and so on, should have qualified for one of these.
A very attractive badge and many thousands must have been issued, but it's not very common outside India. I have one in my collection but I haven't seen many in catalogues here in North America or the UK. |

I have one of these (UK). So it was only issued to former Army personnel then by the sounds of it?

I would think serving soldiers got them, but it would depend on how far down the list you were, I expect. I'm pretty sure that a lot of 'hostilities only' types didn't get their medals and awards until after they'd demobbed, but I'm sure there must be photos of these in wear somewhere.
