Dunstable Grammar School
Graham,
A very nice badge, not listed in K&K, but worn none the less from about 1930 to about 1941. They were a closed school unit, hence the adoption of a school badge when official recognition was withdrawn in 1930. In 1941 they became A Coy, 1 Cadet Bn, ACF. It wasn't until 1951 that they became a CCF. There are a gilding metal title 'DUNSTABLE SCHOOL', and a later embroidered brown on light blue CCF title that you need to complete the set. No school collar dogs were worn so far as I know. Stephen. |

Thanks Stephen. I do have a small button to this unit. Unfortunately the badge is not mine and as a family piece my mate/neighbour does not want to sell it.
Dunstable Grammar closed in 1971 and re opened as Ashtons Middle school in 73, now under threat of closure. I believe they adopted the Bedfs and Herts cap badge at some stage. Thanks, Graham. |

It would appear they wore the Bedfs and Herts collar badge at some point.

The pictures show this cap badge being worn in 1931 and 1942. The later picture dated 1947 shows the change in uniform from service dress to battle dress and the coloured field service cap, black for The Bedfs and Herts Regt is worn with [I think] a change of badge.
