Default Our Bulgarian friends...

Looks like our Bulgarian badge faking friends are now selling their copies from a UK account on eBay.

Link

Check out the Aussie badge copies. Not sure about the coins and other items but the colours are wrong and also the wrong lugs on most of these badges but the front and back look very well struck in most cases.

The 1914 Stars look like castings and the colours are wrong with artificial aging applied they look all the same

Are the badges ALL wrong? Are there any genuine ones there? The maker marked rising suns I'm particularly interest in. Best regards, Mike

I wouldn't touch any of their badges.

They are very good copies not originals.

I second that .......... even some of there coins ??? They should change there aging process when they all are the same colour is a give away when the items are different periods.

Even if some of their wares supposedly were right, would you want to put your money in the hands of these serious fakers? We have a choice.

The unfortunate thing is that many people have already handed over their money to these fakers. Check out their feedback.

Hi Thomas, you're quite right and I had no intention of buying them. I'm doing some personal research into fake maker's marks on British made badges where, generally speaking, there are pretty clear 'tells' when a mark is wrong which have been much discussed on the forum. I suppose my question is really - are those 2 marks 'right' (on the TIPTAFT and AMOR SYDNEY rising suns)? If they are indistinguishable from the real thing, but the 2 badges are 'wrong', that would be a very worrying thing. But if those 2 badges are the real thing, just in very bad company, that would be a different matter. Best regards, Mike.

ps I have a small collection of rising suns and like to pick them up when I can. I'd always assumed maker's marks were good. That's why it worries me. Mike

Mike, as Mick pointed out, they are all fakes, especially the rising suns with maker marks. Lugs and finish are stand-outs, the lack of voiding in the crown arches is another, particularly on the post WW2 AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES example they are trying to pass off as WW1. Keith

Hi Keith! Thanks for that - I think you've you've helped me out on a few of my Aus badges before. You've got me a bit worried now when you say 'lack of voiding in the crown arches is another'. I'm hoping you mean not always a problem - I note that genuine Tiptaft marked badges are not voided on the crown. This is one of my few cap size badges which I've always assumed was ok - with what look like nice 'D' lugs to the back - but no voiding to the crown. I'm not generally a one for just posting badges and seeking opinions - I enjoy researching for myself via the forum and other sources. Since the forum has a whole section dedicated to the rising sun badge, I thought I ought to refresh my knowledge with what the forum has to offer, and I noticed that back in the day, from 2008, there are a few comments asserting how few copies there are about of what ought to be anyway, a very common badge. Looking around ebay and the net now in 2018 I'm seeing a different story, with plenty of fakes, copies, repros or, whatever you might choose to call them, about. Time for a good, comprehensive guide from someone in the know, on how to spot a good 'un from a bad 'un? Or are you Aussies of the opinion that that would just offer a blueprint for the fakers? Interested to know. Best regards, Mike

Hi Mike, no, my reference to the unvoided crown was primarily to the post-WW2 badge. Keith

Thanks for that Keith. I will go on assuming it's a good one for now. Still think that guide is needed - at least on how to spot a dud. Best regards, Mike.
