Two for discussion please
Here are two items I bought in good faith as 'original' that I currently have / had for sale on ebay. Genuine concerns have been raised and I would welcome your views please

Hello,
I dont like the Essex badge it has a modern font and the usual very suspicious fake 'dirty' rear. The two collars I believe are genuine but repainted to the front. regards

I'm with Simon in regards to the Essex badge.
I have seen 3 or 4 of these over the years and although on first sight they appear to be good, further consideration places them in the dubious bracket. I do have one still in my collection, for comparison purposes. As well as your other items, I was watching this particular badge with interest to see how it ended up. Another badge you were offering that I had second thoughts about was the Officer's Territorial badge. Again, first impression was it being good, but I later had doubts and although I did bid on it, I was pleased I was beaten. The misgivings I had in respect of that item were: To my eyes, it had the appearance of being coated with something heavier than normal to "bronze" it rather than is normally expected. Looking at the rear, it appeared that it originally had a slider, (the coating had left a small hump where the slider had been removed). It was on lugs rather than blades, although it is known that a few Officer's badges have been on lugs, I have never seen an Essex Officer's on lugs, thus not a definitive negative. I have never, seen another like it, (although that doesn't mean much.) However, I may be totally incorrect in my assumption and will forever regret not upping my bid. By the way, that was a cracking pair of Bullion Collars, I was beaten on those as well. Regards Brian |
