2 Yeomanry Badges - Are they OK?
I recently bought 2 Yeomanry badges from Ebay, the Glamorgan Imperial Yeomanry and the Cheshire (Earl of Chesters) Yeomanry, partly because they looked ok, and partly because of the prices.
I have attached some photos of them, I would appreciate your thoughts, particularly on the Glamorgan badge, as the coronet appears to be quite crudely stuck on. |

Piers,
I think you may have a pair of duds, both badges are heavily repro'd. Altough they look OK, I suspect they are wrong, my Glam IY is lugged and I have my doubts on it, the Glam Yeo I have has sweat holes and is pretty worn/polished to the front! Your Cheshire Yeo I think is wrong because of the plumes, although they have gaps between them, on both originals I have there is no overhang on the center feather tip! All the Ches Yeo Bim originals I have seen tend to have a fault on the base scroll around the area of "of CHESTER'S. Which almost looks like the Brass overlay has been made too big for the back and seems to buckle around that area! Sorry but I think yours are both wrong (IMO)! Andy |

The 2 badges do not have sweat holes in the back.
With my Chesters badge the lettering on the scroll seems to be out of alignment when I compare it to your photo, and also when compared to pics in K&K or Gaylors books. The closing bracket seems to be too far to the left, shouldn't it be under the join with the w/m? Would that matter? With the Glamorgan badge it appears that the brass coronet was stuck on with superglue, the coronet underneath is just as detailed. I shouldn't be able to just gently pull the gilding coronet off, should I? Does the coronet have to be in brass? |

Glamorgan Imperial Yeomanry
Go to page 5 of the RAC, cavalry section to see some other Glamorgan yeomanry badges. Cheers Sean.

Sean has pointed you in the right direction. I can't comment on the Chester badge but the GIY is the wrong pattern, let alone anything else. It should look like this. Most of the modern fakes are copied from the later 1922 pattern, but tend to be flatter and have no depth as such. Hope that helps. |

Adding this example if I may, which because of the slider -and other details- is another fake I assume?

Jerry,
Afraid so. That's the common copy. Kevin |

Thanks Kevin, I assumed it was bad, but always good to get it confirmed.
