Is that badge a collar or cap badge ? 4 X 3,6 cms.
Thanks. Small inscriptions on back, low and on the right, too small for me ! |

From the measurements, it appears to be a cap badge. It is the pattern without "overseas".

That is a collar badge. The collars are large and I compared the dimensions to the collar badges in my own collection.
The cap badge is much larger and the maple leaf has a different shape than the collar badges. Please see my album. Yours is a nice example of the collar badge, marked OB Allan, and with the stamped lugs. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=16625 Phil Last edited by Phillip Herring; 09-04-10 at 04:39 PM. |

Thanks Phil, But did not the unit wear the collars as caps? I had a lot from a vet and the badges were all the same size.

I will not say that the collars were not worn on the cap.
I have seen photographs of Lt Lyall, VC wearing the large size badge on his cap. As an example, the pre-1914 30th BC Horse collar badges were worn as cap badges vice the very large cap badge (which were also worn on the cap). Check out the 102nd Battalion website. http://www.102ndbattalioncef.ca/ There are some good images showing the large badge being worn on the cap.
