105th Saskatoon Fusiliers Badge
Hello all,
A newbie here, I was going through a bag of badges which belonged to the mother-in-laws uncle who from what I can gather was in the KOYLI during WWI. There are a few different badges in the bag including this Saskatoon Fusiliers badge made by Wicks & Son London. I believe they became the 105th Fusiliers in 1912 and became attached to the KOYLI in 1914. Can anyone tell me what year this is likely to be and if it is officers or other ranks? I believe they were on the bearskins? Thanks, Dave |

Hi Dmet, welcome to the Forum. Your account is active and open for posts.
The 105 Saskatoon Fusiliers was a unit in the Canadian militia and was not overseas during the First WW. It became the 105th Regiment (Saskatoon Fusiliers) in April of 1914, and contributed volunteers to the CEF. Eventually, after many re-designations and amalgamations, they exist today as the North Saskatchewan Regiment.

Sorry, I think I may have put this in the wrong section as it should be in the infantry section. I have been looking around for other badges like it but the ones designated officers seem to have a silver 105 with bars across where as this is pressed. Is this likely to be other ranks?
I have found this information: 1914 •105th Regina Fusiliers become allied with King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (K.O.Y.L.I.) • Further change in Regimental title occurs in that civic name is incorporated, 105th Regina Fusiliers (Saskatoon) So this would tie in with the KOYLI connection. |

Hi David, There are some errors in the source you quoted. There was never a 105th Regina Fusiliers. Originally it was the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles which in 1912 was reorganized as the 105th Saskatoon Fusiliers and the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles. Saskatoon and Regina are the two main cities of the province of Saskatchewan, but they are separated by a couple of hundred miles.
The alliance was not a factor in the First WW units, and in 1920, the 105th was reorganized as the North Saskatchewan Regiment, shortly changed to the PA Volunteers and Saskatoon Light Inf.
