I don't see either badge on the sites you mention but the 1st is clearly an officer's badge - privately made, as they tended to be in that period - while the second sounds like a more modern, issue badge. Keep in mind that ORs in most Indian regiments rarely if ever wore badges before WWI and even then shoulder titles were more common. The advent of modern headgear replacing the turban, except for Sikhs, made cap badges more common in the 1930s and after.

Default Brahman Infantry

Attd the other version of the Brahman's badge from
http://www.britishempire.co.uk

Thank you for the note explaining the silver (Buywyze)
and brass (as Gaylor) twin fish. Must look around for a
brass type. (Buywze sold the silver for £ 195.)

Will have to look for primary references on badge patterns.
Where would those be generally, for the IA - period
1858 to say 1913 ?

Default Brahmans & Others - Army Regs India 1913 Dress

Just received this reprint from the NMP.
Page 71 Appendix 1 - Uniforms etc says:

1st Brahmans.- Uniform SCARLET; facings WHITE
Badges and Devices-
On Buttons ' 1 surrounded by a laurel wreath; above a Tudor Crown '
On Collar of Tunic and on Forage cap- Two upright fishes face to face
mouths and tails touching, standing on a rectangular tablet inscribed
1776 the whole in silver gilt 1 3/4 inch in height.

Also could anyone 'send / point' me to:
(a) Dress Regs periods: 1858 - 1895 and to 1913.
(b) Dress Regs for the Volunteers (& etc). IA, all periods to 1947.

Thanks in advance.

There were some comments recently on IA badge sources, regarding reference books: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=34654

I'm not aware of available copies of the Dress Regs, though it's been some years since I've done any real research in this area. Part of the problem is that in the IA, due to the history of procurement at the regimental level - think 17th century England, where colonels paid for all - many of the dress regs. were compiled it seems by sending out questionnaires and compiling the answers. In far too many cases, the answers tend to be along the lines of 'bagdes, turban and lace as per regimental pattern', which I think you'll agree is d**n all help! Your best sources are the reference books combined with period illustrations/photos I think.
