A couple of things:

I could understand it being a misidentified Middlesex Regiment badge backing if it was on offer from just about any other dealer. This dealer is infamous for his seemingly bottomless amount of very rare DZ flashes and dubious old SAS badges.

The large DZ Flash on the combat Jacket (not smock parachutist) is orientated the correct way as they where worn in 5 ABN BDE. All Brigade troops needed to wear DZ flashes. In 1RRF only Para trained Fusiliers wore Para smocks and only when jumping/ post jump.

In this modern post GULF age everyone wears TRF's. Back on the 80's only the Berlin / Britmis Troops, AMF, UN and Airborne forces wore flashes. This isn't probably appreciated.

The smaller merrowed edged TRF worn on the helmet is orientated correctly for the late 90's onwards.

Orientation of the Middlesex capbadge backing. On top of which I'm from Brandon Colliery originally.

TI - matey can you explain why the RRF changed the orientatation of their original DZ patch, as I'd been intrested to know?

Graham, I do not know why it changed. Maybe as the DZ flash was new and only the 1st Bn, it was simply down to the Colonel's preference?

Sure it'll be in regs somewhere but there is plenty of photos in the Fusilier to back up the orientation.

Worn with yellow to the left - 2nd Bn Middlesex according to "Badge Backings & Embellishments".
