Re Brass RAR Hat Badges.
These metal badges were general issue to all Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment.
The particular badges that are in the pic show a "King's Crown" and were the issue until 1953/54. After that they were issued with a "Queen's Crown", and still in metal. The staybright plastic badges came in around the mid 1970's from memory. To answer another question: Many of us continued to wear the metal badge as we did not like the new ones, and had (of course), an attachment to our original badges, which most of the time had become illegible through polishing. In 1976 at Woodside us new intakes into 3RAR were issued anodised badges. The RAInf badges and rising suns at 1RTB and IET were brass.
You used to be able to purchase brass RAR badges from Christies in Sydney and advantage was taken of that whenever we were up there. Keith |
