Default 1954 Dated Beret - Welch Regiment

This is a nice 1954 dated Kangol beret badged to the Welch Regiment and complete with Smith & Wright Ltd A/A cap badge. There are some more markings on the inside of the beret M over WD stamp and possibly 240? below the WD stamp, very difficult to make out.

I think it is very nice indeed, it is all to easy to overlook this sort of thing, the sun was beginning to set upon the Empire, but, there will only be a finite number of surviving examples in that condition, a really lovely badge too, I like it very much.

Is the beret black or dark blue?

Black as far as I can recall. I'll check when I get home tomorrow.

I stand corrected, Mrs Thomas has informed me that it is dark navy and why would I think otherwise when you can clearly see the difference with the black leather band.
