Ulster 36th Division Cap Badge question.
I guess the 36th Division drew on 20,000 to 30,000 men over the duration of WW1, but does anyone know if the hand of Ulster cap badge made by SHARMAN D NEILL was assembled with a slide (I've only ever seen ones with lugs)?
Many thanks, P.Y. |

It was not a Divisional badge but a YCV badge used by a RIR Bn. Numbers were far less than 30K.

There was a 36th (Ulster) Division badge, but was only worn for a short time. And always had lugs. The 14th (YCV) Bn RIR, wore the pre war YCV badge. There are a number of threads on the forum on these badges.

I have never seen an original of that badge actually fitted with a slider.

36th Div. 'Dixie' Badge
I have a 36th 'Dixie' badge as worm by my father 14516 Sgt John McConaghy.
9th (Service) Batt. Royal Inniskiling Fusiliers. This badge has a pin clasp on the back. |

You certainly do encounter the odd broached example, I always just assume they may have been, subsequently, worn like that, perhaps by a wife or girlfriend.

As for the one on Castle Militaria I have never seen another, it looks original and I cant see that the slider was added later, but I am no expert on Irish badges. regards regards
