Default KRRC Badge Change

Hi everyone!

The attached Badge of The KRRC known as "The Peninsula Cross" was introduced in 1906. When was the Badge changed to the present one?

I am the webmaster of The King's Royal Rifle Corps Association and it can be viewed here: http://www.krrcassociation.com

Many thanks.

Hi RGJ,

welcome to the forum, I am not an expert on KRRC badges but have a keen interest in all things Green Jacket with a bias on the Rifle Brigade.

I haven't been able to pinpoint the badge you have shown but I would say that as it is surmounted by a QV Crown that it is dated pre 1902.

If you have a look at the two links to threads here:

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=11417

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...highlight=krrc

you will get some indication of the KRRC badges worn in the 20th century.

I hope that this helps until one of the longstanding KRRC collectors picks up your thread.

You will find many links to the KRRC by using the forum search facility and Kipling and King volumes 1&2 list many of the badges if you are able to lay your hands on copies.

I have a question myself on KRRC badges that I will put should this thread be picked up by a member who has the required knowledge.

Regards

Ry

I think it´s an image of a shoulder belt plate pre-1881 due to the 60 (th of Foot) in the centre.

Thanks Keith,

That may explain why I couldn't find it, only the celer et audax bottom scroll version.

Thanks Alan for the correction on the date, 1901 and not 1902.

Can anyone help on the following please?

Cord Boss badges excepted (and to the best of my knowledge.)

For the regular battalions of the KRRC in the 20th century I am aware of the following cap badges as featured in Andy's thread:

1. KK673 The small QVC badge.

2. KK674 The small KC Tel-El-Kebir

3. KK675 Andy has this as the common post 1905 LadySmith honour badge worn until the fifties.

but K&K have KK675 as a large version of KK674 all listed in Volume 1.

In volume 2 they go on to list KK2011, sealed 13th December 1905, is this then not the common LadySmith honour badge mentioned above and if it is, is KK675 actually as described in Volume 1 as being a large version of the Tel-El-Kebir badge and has anyone ever seen one?

This would explain the perceived irregularity in K&K!

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...highlight=KRRC

Finally completing the set

4. KK2251 Plastic KC.

5. KK2012 Plastic QC.

Regards

Ry

Default badge anomoly

Keith, Alan, & Charlie
Sorry gents but I beg to differ :
I'm afraid I dont know the specific answer to your question "royalgreenjackets" but I can confirm that the badge you originally posted was indeed introduced in 1906 (see extracts from the regimental history as shown). It differed from the 1827-83 badge by the additional honour Busaco, not granted until 1880.
The volume on "Uniform, Armanent, & Equipment" (from which this information comes) was published in 1913, and, as can be seen, this item is still labelled "The present badge of the regiment". However, when it was eventually changed, I have no information at the moment. Regards Jeff

A very interesting spanner in the works Jeff,

I'd be interested in dimensions and also any existing photographic evidence that this is a headdress item.

If it were a headdress item, could it have been an officers or ceremonial badge?

My interest grows, I'm very pleased that this thread has materialised as the outcome may turn out to be of real benefit to not only myself at this stage of my collocting but also to the KRRC association and other KRRC collecting members.

To get to the bottom of both points raised in this thread would be a delight.

Regards to all

Ry

Hi Charlie. No, these were all pouch/belt badges. I am not sure about the helmet plates since only the 1878-83 plate is given in the history. I shall have another look through my archives and see what else emerges. All the best Jeff

Got you Jeff,

so to summarise, Keith was correct in stating that he thought that it was a belt badge or pouch badge as you say.

Royalgreenjackets' statement of the badge being from 1906 is also correct
but this was not replaced (as was his question) by any of the later pattern badges mentioned in the thread due to their being headdress badges.

Leigh, sorry I'm afraid that I can't help with your request with the KRRC insignia for the headdress you show, if it were rifle brigade I might have been able to comment.

I know that there are other longstanding KRRC collectors in the forum and hope that they will be able to answer your question.

Regards

Ry
