The Welsh 1st Volunteers
Hi All, the pictured WM badge to the 1st Volunteer Bn was recently dug out of my "Odds & Sods" box. The badge was acquired many years ago and is one I have had doubts about. It is of 3 piece construction and as will be noted the title scrolls appear to be more polished and yellow in hue than the badge proper, perhaps a different metal composition or heat oxidation.
Would appreciate any thoughts other members may have. Cheers. Len. |

It looks to be made very well IMO.

The Welsh 1st Volunteers
Without wishing to cast any aspersions as to the authenticity of this badge, were not all Volunteer badges in white metal?

Hi Kevin, it has been quite a while. Hope you are keeping well.
Appreciate you posting images of examples in your collection. When compared with the one I posted the differences are plain to see. Andy Plewa also contacted me on this one to give it the "thumbs down" Diolch. Len. |

Hi Leonard,
Sorry about your example but good ones do pop up now and again. I'll keep my eyes open for you. Regards, Kevin |

I too would have said that is wrong, the metal used and the manufacturing appears modern, it has no significant age whatsoever, it is a great shame to see spurious examples of these around, notwithstanding, still very interesting to see and it certainly reinforces the need to examine each and every example very carefully indeed, thank you for showing it.
