G'day BC
Great photos, thanks for sharing. I had an Artillery officers cross belt with a silver bullion top flap from the Rupertswood 1/2 half battery in my hands up at Canberra while there for the dedication of the new national Boer War , war memorial on 31st May. And yes I do have photos but that's another story. Regards Phil. |

G'day BC
Let me get the new camera sorted and get the pics into the computer then I can get them out again and onto you and others. I also have a whole lot of old Vic Pre Fed artillery photos and a lot have names on them. Cheers Phil. |

Hello,
Looking at the prize badges worn by the man in Photo n.o 4 they look naval style rather than Army style. Is it possible he is a Naval Artillery Volunteer. Did you have them in Australia at that time. I am not an expert on your artillery. regards

Great photos bc, Victorians seemed to have photographed everything they could compared to other states.
Simon, we did have naval artillery volunteers but these badges are army - best in battery and Army Signalling Certificate, somewhere between 1889 and 1893. |

Thanks for that Keith.
I would be interested to learn of or see the various Gunnery prize badges of that period using the cannon style barrels, and/or G in wreath. regards

You might need Australian Army Badges: Cloth Insignia of the Army in Australia, 1860-1993, by J K Cossum, 1997, self-published. It has an overview of all those types of badges. All the six Australian colonies differed in usage and design, although generally similar to UK practices.
I don't doubt these are still available on the internet. |
