Nice, I wouldn't have turned them down. I have a very similar blackened Gloucestershire one myself in my English Line Infantry album. I was told, common thing to do to lessen glare in the trench's.

Nice pieces overall.

Simon.

Hi BC,

The Cheshire badge changed pattern in 1922, yours is all brass so may be economy 1916 issue, will have a closer look on my pc later. The Glosters regular battalions did not wear blackened badges, 4th Batt a rifle batt did but they wore a blank plinth Sphinx version of the 5th and 6th TF battalions. The Lincs is pre 1946. They look ok, crimp mark to South Lancs slider a good sign butcommon to have brazing holes on these, cheers Dean.

thanks dean
thanks for your comments.
it would be nice if the Cheshire badge was the economy 1916 issue.
ive never had a blackened Glosters but thanks for your comments.
the South Lancs did worry me due to the lack of brazing holes.
having said all this, i did like the length of all the sliders. not the usual short version
thanks again

Hi again BC,

I quite like your Cheshires as have one with a broken slider very similar.

Having a closer look I also have a blackened Glosters same as yours with slider. No doubt a specialist in this area will be along to educate us both.
The sliders look good and sturdy on them all - where did you source them as this may be a guide.

Cheers Dean.

Hi BC,

I'm unsure if my opinions are correct and if I'm wrong, my apologies, the Glosters is I think, wrong, it's more like the type of badge that our Welsh Taxi-car or springmeadow used to sell, ie, blackened and then rubbed to look old ??

The slider on the Lincs looks remarkably like the ones being sold on ebay at the moment, I think the return leg on the bend is a little too long, obviously just my thoughts and I'm nearly always wrong !!

Dave.
