Indian Medal - Is it fake? Opinions wanted

Hello all,

I'm currently collecting WW2 stars. I tend to pick them up without ribbons from house clearances.

I do clean and polish them (I know it's frowned upon but I have no desire to sell - I buy them for display purposes).

I recently bought an Indian Burma star but after cleaning I've noticed issues.

It seems to have a number of misshapen areas on the front and back (see photos).

The colour also seems more silvery than my other examples.

My intuition says it's fake, it just seems a lot of effort (+ adding a full soldier inscription) for a medal that's not rare or valuable.

I would say its a genuine Burma Star to an Indian unit.

Looks to be impressed rather than engraved - a good sign.

the pic of the front looks like its a little domed but that could just be the light and angle.
the naming on the reverse looks good, so a good sign of a period medal

The naming is typical of WWII Stars done at the Calcutta Mint and other Indian establishments. The quality of the casting may be due to it's being Indian made or, less likely I think, that it s a 'tailor's copy' whch are qute common in that part of the world. I'd say it's a good'un. And to a good unt - KGO Sappers and Miners had a busy war and won a number of gallantry awards. There s a verson of their Reg.
