Fantastic headgear, etc, items of wonderful quality.
I tend not to contribute to these threads as I have no info to offer and the majority of my headgear collection is very mundane, "never mind the quality, feel the width" bottom feeder stuff. Oh, and nobody needs to offer an expensive bottle of whiskey as bait to lure me to come and maul their collection - a bottle of supermarket brand bourbon and I'm anyone's.

It is a helmet to the 1st Lancashire Mounted Rifles, a unit that existed for only about a year from 1860 to 1861 with a strength of three officers and approximately 50 troopers. In 1861 they converted to light horse. Though not directly related to your collecting interest I thought you might enjoy seeing it as it is an extremely rare helmet and not seen on the market. Rowe's book " Head Dress of the British Heavy Cavalry, Dragoon Guards, Houshold and Yeomanry Cavalry, 1842-1934" and an excellent article was published in the Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research, Vol. 36, No. 148 (DECEMBER 1958), titled "Helmets of the Lancashire Mounted Rifles and the 1st Lancashire Light Horse Volunteers"... it is an extremely rare helmet and certainly an exceedingly handsome helmet as well...
