Essex Regiment
An unusual design that I have not encountered before.
Any information about the time period and headdress it was worn on please? Indeed it may not be a headdress badge but a collar as it is slightly smaller than the normal cap badge. Thank you for looking, Keith

Hello Keith
I think the maker is Ludlow London. If you decide you want to move it on please keep me in mind. Regards Terry |

Essex badge
This looks to me like a sandcast bi-metal version which has been made from the officers pattern cap badge which was smaller than the normal size OSD cap badge, which was also made in silver plate.
Other people may have a different view on this, but I have never seen one of these before. Rob |

Rob is correct, it has been taken from an officers badge, the tail is pointing away from the head, where the OR's badge it is pointing to the head.
Also the officers badges were on the smaller size than the OR's. Regards Terry |

Essex OSD badges
I have got an Essex OSD badge which is the same size as the other ranks bi-metal cap badges.
Quite why they had two sizes I don't know, possibly a makers difference, maybe one size for the peaked cap and the smaller size for the F/S cap? Rob |

Hello Rob
I have a Essex Bronze badge with blades [Gaunt London] the same size as the OR's badge but the tail points to the head all the other officer badges I have the tail points to the rear. Regards Terry |
