Default Britain/Africa - great photo

Hi Chaps,

I happened across this photo while catching up on stories on the BBC news website and I just thought it was a terrific image.

Caption reads: Masai warriors in Kenya play a British army team in a cricket match which aimed to raise the plight of the northern white rhino.

Cheers,

Roy

Nice one Roy. Whilst out in Kenya with my Regiment we met the Massai, their leader called himself the Colonel. He had his red robe a combat jacket and a Para beret.

Great story Andy,

Quite envious as Africa is a place I've never been. Despite many issues there, it seems a wonderful part of the world. Some fascinating history too.

It would have been quite something to have been there back at the hight of the British Empire.

I love this photo as it shows the contrast of cultures and all while playing cricket....how's that...

Cheerio,

Roy

Strange, you look older - must be the bearskin.
Just wondered if you were a 1GG who preceded my Bn. in Kenya back then.
No swinging the sandbag or whatever over reminiscences of Nanuki bars & stuff then.
I was only tripping over my Masai spears and OG jungle hat this evening, exploring the garage.

We decided to play the staff of a safari lodge at football when on local leave (not sure that they were all Masai) but the pitch was baked earth, the football was a medicine ball that would break your neck if you'd headered it. They played bare foot and we lost about 60 v 0! The losers had to buy beer for the victors and we spent the night drinking the bar dry with these guys! One of those things you don't forget!!!

KR,

Pete.

I have to admit that the first thing that struck me about the photo is the Masai making do with a pair of pads while the Brit is sporting all the Gucci kit.
Maybe its down to Health & Safety Regs.
