Default Mystery GR Brass object

Any thoughts as to this item?

I would guess part of a flintlock gun/pistol?

I doubt it's anything to do with guns, it looks more like a bracket that may have held something like a pennant on the corner of a carriage so there may have been left and right hand versions that again may or may not be exactly the same to make a set depending on how it was placed.
But that's just an idea of what it could be

Thanks for the replies chaps, my first thought was musket or cannon related but then I wondered if it could be a plume holder from a shako or perhaps a belt fitting?

I think something to scale it would be helpful as it's size is not known to us.

An old Georgian period fitment.
Just an idea: as it has a drilled hole, evidently to accommodate a retaining screw, I was thinking along the lines that perhaps it could have served as a type of vice, as in holding a cylindrical item such as a pistol/rifle barrel while carrying out maintenance or repair. In this scenario it would be an armourer's item. But as I said, just an idea,

Its difficult to measure but the diameter inside the bottom half circle is about 3/4" or 19mm and then it tapers out as it goes up.

And with only one screw it wouldn't firmly clamp anything?

But please keep up the suggestions.
