Default Black buttons

India - 1945. There seem to be rather too many black buttons on this officer's tunic. Why should this be? Mike

Well spotted! Here's the same officer - Capt Billy Moss Coldm Gds - a couple of years earlier whilst on Crete. In the original picture he was in India en route to Siam with Force 136. In final picture gainfully employed in Siam - listening to the test match! Mike

Perhaps it was a pragmatic decision, taken in case of capture on Crete by non-English speaking Germans. Less provocative than GREAT BRITAIN and makes more sense than COLDSTREAM. And ENGLAND translates well into German! Mike
