South Arabia Defence Force
South Arabian Defence Force.
Shown as badge number 1265 in British Colonial Badges by Renfrew, Renfrew, & Cranston, and described as South Arabian Defence Force post 1961. Is there any more information about the SADF please...such as when raised, when dispanded, uniform, numbers, purpose, and what did it do? Also the badge has a scroll and sword in the design, but what is the other object, it vaguely looks like a shoe or saddle maybe? I would welcome your opinions and thank you for looking, Keith

SADF
SADF is the South African Defence Force, although I am not familiar with the badge shown.
Aden and the Protectorate became the Federation of South Arabia. Wikipedia says: The Federation of Arab Emirates of the South (Arabic: اتحاد إمارات الجنوب العربي Ittiḥād ʾImārāt al-Janūn al-ʿArabiyy) was an organization of states within the British Aden Protectorate in what would become South Yemen. The Federation of six states was inaugurated in the British Colony of Aden on 11 February 1959, and the Federation and Britain signed a “Treaty of Friendship and Protection,” which detailed plans for British financial and military assistance.[1] It subsequently added nine states and, on 4 April 1962, became known as the Federation of South Arabia. This was joined by the Aden Colony on 18 January 1963. This badge is definitely not a South Arabian badge. So it's the Sudan Auxiliary Defence Force circa 1940, and the object behind the sword is the blade from a plough.

Have had one of these for ages and been unable to ID it. Thanks for putting it to bed eventually. Now all I have to do is find whichever bag it is in and label it properly. That may be difficult.
