King's Own Royal Regiment
I assume this is a restrike or a fake, but always good to get an informed opinion from those who know these, as I am a novice on this type of badge.

I thought I would try posting the front and reverse as separate images to aid opinions.

Sorry, but I only have an old kitchen scales which is not very accurate for such a small item. It says 20gms, but it is not a weight I would be happy to say was correct. Regards and thanks for your interest in this, Jerry |

Hi (again) Jerry
Thanks for the info'. It is difficult to tell from a photo but I am not altogether "happy" about this one and suspect your initial instinct that it could be a fake is probably correct. I must admit the front looks nice, but the back worries me a little ; To begin with, my notes (and Carman's book) say N-S brass lugs. Yours appear to be copper and E-W, and from what I can see they look to be "footed" (always a bad sign on badges of this date). The weight you give of 20g is rather heavy (it should be around 14g) and seems to suggest a die-cast copy. Unfortunately this particular badge has been widely faked just recently. My advice is to get a second opinion from someone who can handle it and someone you can trust. Regards Jeff |

Thanks again Jeff. The info on the positioning and material of the lugs is probably enough to class it as a copy. I'll try reweighing it when I can.
