Default Herts. R.

Hi Guys,

I have an entry in a List of Changes document under change no C 8293 form 1957 for:

Herts. R.

Can someone let me know what this unit is and what the badge looks like. It comes with a Queen's Crown.

Regards

Chris

I suspect that it is the Hertfordshire yeomanry - white metal stag surrounded by a garter with a crown on top.

The Hertfordshire Regiment illustrated as K&K2384 desribed as "A circlet inscribed The Hertfordshire Regiment surmounted by St Edwards (Queen's) Crown. In the centre a Hart lodged. In gilding metal sealed 9th January 1957.

This seems to fit with your record of changes. However, the Hertfordshire Regiment TA amalgamated with the Bedfordshire Regiment in 1961 to form the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshre Regiment wearing a redesigned badge so was there ever an anodised badge as described above?

Yes it is the old k/c Herts TA badge in brass with a Q/C. I have never seen one outside of K&K. It does not seem to have ever been made in a/a and I do wonder how many brass ones were ever made.

Default Herts Regt

Hi,

So far as I am aware there was never an anodised Herts Regt cap badge, nor an OR's GM badge. The only two I've ever seen, and own one, is a silver gilt badge. This 'was' a KC badge that has had the crown replaced with a QC. This was a legitimate alteration, very slickly doen and almost un-noticable.

Regards, Stephen.

Hi Andy,

What makes the circlet stand out as a fake?

That brasing is done incredibly neatly.

Cheers

Phil

Chaps.

I went to Lockdales for that Auction; the silver and gilt Herts. Officers went for £210.

I managed to not win a single item, got blown out of the water by a bloke who purchased every Essex item being offered, with perhaps the exception of one or two pieces.

Extremely annoying and very frustrating.

Regards.

Brian

Greetings Keith.

Hope all is ticketyboo.

You scoundrel........have you robbed a bank or sold your house recently??

So, you were the bloke on t'internet then, I bid against you on the three GGs you won.

Was it the white metal 2nd VB? Nice badge.

It's comforting to know that some of the items I was after have gone to a loving and appreciative home.

Yeah, the RWK pouch badge is a cracker.

Best wishes and regards.

Brian
