Default SAS wing thread

Guys
Is it me or does this wing have thicker rope type thread in the right compared to the left side?
I've thought maybe the owner had the right done as the original thread was coming away likes happening on the opposite side?
Anyone got similar?
Jon

Do you mean rigging? Or the construction of the top part of the wing?

I agree Jon it looks like the owner has tried to re-do the lines.

I wouldn't had thought it would be the owner, it looks like its just coming apart inside the threads.

I'm not sure if I'm getting this right. The left thread has faded/missing and the right is just starting to undo itself. There would be no reason to repair the wings. If for any reason they was unfit for service you would just go and get another pair. The only time wings was worn, currently 80's onwards was on your No2's or attached to another unit on your work dress. Very rarely worn around camp.

The wings are 1944 pattern Gavin. Could have been issued post war if course. Not 80s. So just nipping in to get a replacement pair may not have been possible mate.
Also the thicker thread is not looking like it's coming away.
The song could have been worn by a proud vet on his blazer and wanting to stay smart repair the lines.
Whatever the story I was trying to generate an interest and to see if any other collectors had wings in a similar state.

Interesting set of wings in any case, Jon 118 is much more knowledgeable than I regarding dating such things so I take his word for the era of manufacture, if they have been worn quite possibly done by the owner, if not how about unfinished or poorly finished by the manufacturer, only guesses of course.

Hi Jon,

Although your wing is a genuine 1944 pattern it was also worn beyond WW2 as I'm sure you know.

It does appear that the original thinner right hand thread has been replaced with a thicker twisted thread which incidentally was used on 1950's produced wings of a very similar pattern to the 44 wing. One major difference being the thickness of thread used.

Why the left hand side was not done in the same way is strange but maybe was still intact when the the rhs was replaced. It is possible that the rhs thread was replaced in the 50's with the then currently used thicker threads.

Just my theory.

Jack

Not quite sure why I said 80's in that text, senior moment. Possibilities are endless I suppose, but just through my own experience I have said what I think, but it's anyone's guess I suppose.
