Ku Lang Su Municipal Police Badge
Did anyone notice the price achieved for a bronze issue of the captioned badge on eBay ? Some GBP1,400.oo.Bronze issue to R & F,only about 30 at any one time, all Indians. Two British Officers and a couple of chinese detectives made up the establishment of the Municipal Police Force of this adjunct to the Treaty Port of Amoy.Established at the turn of the 19th century, the Force looked after the island of Ku Lang Su,fronting Amoy (now XiaMen). It was taken over by the Japanese early in WW2 and not reformed post-war,the settlement having been returned to China. The cap badge follows the Shanghai Municipal Police pattern, a star bearing the flags of those nations which held a part of the lease of the Concession.Illustrated in Renfrew etc.

The badge was the actual one illustrated in Renfrew - I have seen an enamelled version (i have a photo) and I have previously possessed a numbered Detectives badge to the same Force.

A very interesting aspect of badge collecting, the often forgotten far flung enclaves of the old British Empire.
I would be glad to see any photos of items of this nature if you have any. regards

Simon,
Please see the enamelled version in the attached photo. A beautiful badge - which i believe is residing somewhere in the South of England. Karl |

Karl,
Yes its a beautiful badge and you can see that its construction is reflecting the Shanghai Municipal Police cap badge, or vice versa. Thanks for showing it. regards
