166th Bn CEF White Metal Cap Badge
All:
I recently acquired a white metal cap badge for the 166th Bn. The description on the listing was not quite accurate and so I have ended up with two such badges. In the course of comparing the two I see that there are differences. In particular the new one shows the lettering to be a little indistinct or rounded off. In particular the wording of Queens Own Rifles of Canada around the 166 number. I was wondering if it is possible to wear these details down, or if the dies had been over used and started to lose their fine detail. Also wondered if anyone knows if this badge is one that has been reproduced. In the pictures the "new" one is the badge to the right side. In any event thought that I would post a couple of pictures and would appreciate any thoughts on these points. Thank you Don |

Hi Don, From the images I think you have two badges struck from the same die, but at different times. The dies wear and show small changes over the run, but no significant differences.
