Default 8th Madras Infantry Badge

I though I'd share this one - a nice example of a pre 1901 pagri or helmet to the 8th Madras Infantry - the 7th Gurkhas trace their history to this regiment.
In 1902 the 2nd Btn 8th Gurkhas were raised to replace the 8th Madras Infantry (inheriting the Regimental funds, Mess and Band Instruments) in 1903 they became the 2nd Btn 10th Gurkha Rifles before finally and confusingly became the 1st Battalion 7th Gurkha Rifles. A section on the insignia of the 8th Madras is shown in the 7th Gurkha Rifles Insignia book from the Gurkha Museum .

Nice to see so many examples of earlier era badges turning up here lately. fascinating as they are, one gets a bit tired of all the sand cast 'WWII local make' items. Thanks, GR.
