Default NZ Pioneer with blades by Firmin.

Picked this one up today. I have not seen the Firmin collar sized badge with blades previously but I think it is good. It has the Firmin plaque and has the non voided collar typical of Firmin collar badges.

It came from an old collection the the collector died in the early 90's but the badges have only just be bought by a friend who sold me this for £4. I bought 6 other badges from him all for the same price.

I think this is good but there were some collectors copies and fakes among the collection.

I have shown it next to the Gaunt collar I already owned.

Even down to the horizontal mark across the top of the axe which I have seen on at least one other Firmin made example.

So far I have found no other examples with lugs. I have seen OSD collars with very flat backs made by Gaunt but they had lugs not blades

BC

I do not know if they made small collar sized versions for use as cap badges.
