Default All the best out of Holland's South West ;-)

Hello to you all,

Although already a few days into the new year.....all the best for the new year and years to come!

My name is Eric, a 44 years old collector of Militaria out of the South West of the Netherlands.
I've joined this forum because I recently had the opportunity to buy some badges connected to the liberation of the South West of the Netherlands where I live and some I bought because they were nice to see and would like to know a bit more about the originality of some badges I bought.

Bought some badges in the last years but as my main interest lies within all types of Dutch bayonets And other edged weapons never really got into the badge subject to deep.
Researching the badges I bought made the whole subject much more interesting then I thought!
Hope you guys (and girls?) can help me with some questions I might have ;-)

There is enough to read on the forum so it might take some time to post pictures of my " collection"

All the best, Eric

Default Bought the whole collection!

Hello,

As said I recently bought some badges out of an old collection but after some thinking and talking to the seller I desided to buy the whole collection

I've been busy going through one of the boxes and trying to find out more about each badge by looking at the web and writing down some info on the back of the paper I've put the badge on.....this is going to keep me busy for a long time

I need to buy some good refrence and some way to make the identification a bit faster.
As I understand dating badges seems to be a study on its self and would like to gain some knowledge to be able to do it myself.
Been going through the forum and found the info about restrikes and am sure some of the badges in the collection fall in this category.....

Perhaps you guys like to see some pictures and are willing to help me detecting some fakes/restrikes at first glance.

Hope you enjoy and perhaps you guys can give me some tips.

Ok.......inserting pics seems to be more difficult than I thoughtimage.jpg

I see a Boy Scouts cap badge in the first picture, middle right, its a fleur de lys in a circle. I don't think they were fighting in the war. Also, in your second picture, there is a Corps Of Commissionaires pouch badge, its a crossed anchor and sword with a small circular wreath, made from brass. The CoC of that time were a veterans employment service, they too would not have been fighting in the war.

Third picture, BFS in wreath, white metal badge. This is British Frontier Service.

Fifth picture, CCG in wreath, brass badge. This is Control Commission Germany.

Welcome to the forum Eric from a fellow countryman. Some good classic British army badge books to help you on your way are 'Military badge collecting' by John Gaylor and 'Head-dress badges of the British army' by Kipling and King. I have a set of Kipling and King for sale, PM me if interested.

Moore books here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/books/bibliography.htm http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/boo...liography2.htm

Lots of Canadian badges at the top of the page under 'Current Projects'.

Rgds, Thomas.
