Default South African Artillery collar badge

Hello South African badge buffs,

Here is a recent acquisition for your comments, please. Although I have searched in the forum archives I haven't been able to positively determine when it was worn.

It has "SOUTH AFRICA" and "SUID AFRIKA" and measures 41mm X 22mm approx.

Thanks, Tinto

The lugged badges were worn to c.1960 when the lugs were replaced with clutch pins, so this is one of the earlier badges.

These may be of interest. I have posted a number of these badge cards on SA badges in the Albums. If you use the words South Africa the album will be found there. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2704

Thanks for the link, Madziro,

Correct me if I'm wrong, my collar/beret badge in first post was worn 1937-1946?

Cheers, Tinto

Thanks Dudley, always a pleasure to see the badge cards you have obviously so painstakingly created.
Cheers,
Alex

Thanks Gents. Tinto, I am of the opinion that your badge is dated 1937 - 46 as it has lugs. I am not sure of the exact date but do know that the badges made sometime post war (into the 1960s had pins or screws on the back) as they do to this day. There were a number of "left over" badges from the war days that were worn up to the early 1960s as well.

Thanks very much for the confirmation, Madziro.
