Hi Paul

According to Harry Wynne [rattle-watch1] in his book on "Service-raised civilian police forces at home and overseas" there was a WM KC RAF cap badge "worn by Sikh Additional Police Constables of the Straits Settlements Police ('K' Division) employed by the Royal Air Force" (plate 12). This was published in 1999 so I don't know if additional information may have since come to light.

As to the chromed RAF badges: as Billy says there are a number of suggestions but no-one has yet produced a definitive answer.

All the best

Graham

Thanks Graham,
Hopefully if Rattle-watch1 has any further info and sees this he can let us know.
I haven't handled a w/m one before and it was too cheap to leave behind.

Paul

Yes, it could be something from 'unusual' to 'very rare' so worth taking a punt. I had 2 in chrome at one time: one with lugs -

and one brooched which I sold a couple of years back.

All the best

Graham

I have been led to believe these were worn by RAF POLICE and have so marked it in my collection as such.

Dear Paul, Just a quick reply, when visiting the then RAF Police Museum which was then situated at RAF Newark about 1993 I was able to see most of the collection before being moved to a new location. my main interest was the RAF Police Auxiliaries. There was a large photograph of a group of Straits Settlements Police with various headdress (Fez and Turbans) with the RAF badge. It had a notation saying that they were 'K' Division Additional Constables and wearing a white metal RAF cap badge this was circa 1935.
The Straits Settlements Police were also brought into police the new Dockyard being built in 1938.

Thank you Harry,
As Graham said an unusual badge and an interesting explanation of when worn.
Best

Snowdrop 68 might be able to look into this sometime. The museum would have been at RAF Newton. Regards, Paul.
