Default APPRENTICE title

Hi Guys,

Has anyone ever come across any metal APPRENTICE titles before?

The Army Apprentice School wasn't issued any officially as far as I know but I have picked up a metal title made by Lega, Melbourne.

Does anyone know much about this title? At a guess, it's unofficial but I would be interested to find out if any of the appies actually wore it there.

Will post a picture when I get home next week.

Mick

Hi Mick,

Probably I'm way off on this one, but, the Irish Army Apprentice School when it was in Nass, Co. Kildare, wore titles, certainly in cloth, I'm not sure about metal. I'll see what I can find out!

Here's an interesting APPRENTICE title I picked up a while ago.

Made by Lega, Melbourne.

I did some research and the response from some ex Army Apprentices was that it was worn.

Not sure in what capacity but it probably is unofficial.

Mick,
The Army Dress Manual 1979 lists the metal title APPRENTICE. This authorisation did not appear in the previous Dress Manual 1963 as late as amendment No 10 which must have been issued in the late 1960s, early 1970s. Mark and Arthur mention them in their book but their example is voided.

Thanks Keith.

Might have a look in their book and also the dress manual.

An interesting title none the less - its one you don't see very often.

Mick. Are you sure it's military? It doesn't look right to me. The font is wrong and why a painted background, surely that would soon be worn away with regular cleaning, and why no 'ARMY', all the cloth titles were 'ARMY APPRENTICE' and curved. Doesn't make sense. I think it is a civilian item.

I did ask several ex Appys and they did say they remember wearing them.

Lega also make a lot of badges for the army.

I also don't think its civilian - on what item of civilian clothing would you wear a shoulder title?

hi all
ive asked around and no one i have spoken to has seen the title with the green back ground but i also can confirm that lega made the apprentice titles.
i would say the green is a variation for some reason. maybe some appy thought it would look better painted up?
as you can see the title is the same other than the background as yours.
