Shame there are no photos of their backs. Between Messines and the end of Third Ypres, infantry of the AIF used a interesting variety of distinguishing marks for battlefield identification, on the arms, the back of the jacket or the helmet, in addition to unit colour patches and specialist armbands and patches.
